Our Favorite Meat Loaf 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
3 slices white bread -- torn small pieces
1 small onion -- finely chopped
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper
3 tablespoons ketchup
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients except the ketchup; mix well. Press the mixture evenly into a 9- by 5-inch loaf pan.
Spread the ketchup over the top and bake for 60 to 65 minutes, or until no pink remains and the juices run clear.
Remove from the oven; drain and allow to sit for 5 minutes. Slice and serve.
This recipe yields 4 to 6 servings.
